Join us for a conversation and reception with artist Kakyoung Lee.

Lee is a multidisciplinary artists working with moving images, printmaking, drawing, and installation.

Over the years, she has successfully worked to create works unifying traditional and digital techniques, “My moving images and video installations are focused on the overlapped and accumulated layered lines of non-historical daily images. Starting from the video footages that I capture from my personal performance or personal daily surroundings, I deconstructed and reconstructed hundreds of sequences in a fresh structure, utilizing a time intensive process of hundreds of etchings and hand drawings. Each image is scratched and accumulated on the top of previous layer on a single surface or a fragile plexi glass, and creates the next image while still the past image remains behind.”

She received her BFA/MFA in Printmaking from Hong-Ik University, Seoul and MFA from SUNY Purchase College, NY. Lee has exhibited internationally including at the Drawing Center, New York; Hofstra University, Hempstead; Kunsthalle Bremen, DE; Mass MOCA, North Adams; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Banja Luka, Bosnia; Museum Folkwang, Essen, DE; Hamburger Kunsthalle, DE; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Oqbo, Berlin, DE; Queens Museum, New York; and Seoul Arts Center, Korea.
